The Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) program is recruiting Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) AmeriCorps Member positions. 

If you are looking for an exciting opportunity to serve outdoors across Washington State, this position is for you! Our AmeriCorps Members serve on a crew of six (five corps members and one crew supervisor) or independently with partner organizations. WCC AmeriCorps Members gain hands-on environmental skills serving with over 90 partnering organizations across Washington State. Members serving 9 or 11-month terms also have the opportunity to develop their skills through a variety of certifications that WCC offers to both supervisors and members (e.g. Hazwoper, Pesticide Applicator, and Wilderness First Responder).

Joining Ecology’s Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) means becoming a part of a team committed to protecting and restoring Washington State's environment.A term of service in WCC allows you to help solve some of the most challenging problems facing our state. In addition to a semi-monthly living allowance, we provide the following benefits:  

  • Health Insurance - All WCC members are offered a basic health insurance policy. WCC pays the monthly insurance premium. Members are eligible for WCC-offered insurance on their first day of service.
  • Member Assistance Program - All members are offered free, accessible, and high-quality mental health services. 
  • Three weeks of paid professional training for members serving 11 or 9 month terms in addition to day-to-day hands-on training in the field. Week-long training conferences require overnight travel.
  • Childcare and Food Assistance - Assistance is available to those who qualify through DSHS and / or the AmeriCorps Childcare Program.
  • GED Reimbursement - GED exam fee reimbursement is available for those who successfully pass the exam during their WCC term.

What will I earn?

  • Our members earn a living allowance of *$1,441 twice a month ($2,882 per month, pre-tax) plus education award described below. *Location-based elevated living allowance available for members with positions based in King, Snohomish, and Clark counties: $1,568 twice a month ($3,136 per month, before taxes).

 

Educational benefits:

  • The AmeriCorps Education Award (scholarship) is available to members upon completion of service term. For the 2024-2025 program year, our available terms and scholarship amounts are:
    1. Full-term positions (11 months / 1,700 hours): $7,395.00
    2. Three-quarter-term positions (nine months / 1,200 hours): $5,176.50
    3. Quarter-term positions (three months / 450 hours): $1,956.35
  • Forbearance is available on qualifying student loans. AmeriCorps will pay interest that accrues while serving in the WCC for eligible loans. Interest accrual is paid upon successful term completion. Forbearance is typically limited to government-backed student loans. Contact your lender to learn if your loan qualifies for National Service forbearance.

Student debt and how serving with Ecology can helpMembers may be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program, which forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer. The Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) program helps communities manage shorelands and wetlands. Our primary focus is on state and local responsibilities for administering Washington state and federally-delegated laws. Our mission is to work in partnership with communities to support healthy watersheds and promote statewide environmental interests.

The SEA program's Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) section is looking to fill AmeriCorps Member positions located across the State of Washington.

Please note: These positions work with Ecology employees but are not Ecology employees. They are AmeriCorps Members serving in an Ecology-sponsored program.

                These are 3-month AmeriCorps positions with a duration of June 9, 2025 - September 4, 2025Generally, the schedule will be Monday-Thursday 7 AM-5:30 PM but may change based on project requirements.

                This posting will be used to fill vacancies in the following counties: Chelan, Clallam, Grant, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Kittitas, Mason, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, Whatcom and Yakima.

The positions will serve with a crew of WCC AmeriCorps Members to complete natural resource assignments.

As an AmeriCorps Member, you may serve on the following projects:
  • Habitat Enhancement: environmental restoration, wetland mitigation, in-stream salmon recovery work, etc.
  • Recreational Enhancement: Campground upgrades and maintenance, front and back country trail construction and maintenance, boardwalk installation, etc.
  • Combination: Many WCC AmeriCorps members serve on both project types, depending on the season.
As a leading AmeriCorps program with a nationally recognized disaster response program, WCC’s AmeriCorps Members may serve on deployments to local and national disasters.

Duties typically include:
  • Using hand tools, such as shovels, hoes, rakes, hammers and axes.
  • Serving on steep inclines for long periods of time.
  • Walking several miles per day over rough terrain.
  • Lifting 60 pounds repetitively for long periods of time.
  • Operating small power tools, such as chain saws, weed-eaters, drills, augers, and more.
Working Conditions - this position may require:
  • Travelling overnight to accomplish assignments.
  • Serving in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • Serving in inclement weather.
  • Travelling over rough terrain and wilderness areas.
  • Lifting 60 pounds repetitively for extended periods of time.
  • Serving four (4) or eight (8) consecutive days in travel status.
  • Deploying to natural disaster areas in an emergency response capacity for up to 30 consecutive days.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 – 25 years old, with exceptions for those with military service or mental or sensory disabilities.
  • AmeriCorps Eligibility: U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent U.S. Resident Alien.

 
Desired Qualifications:
 

  • Preference is given to Washington State residents per WCC’s legislation.
