WDVA is excited to announce we are now accepting applications for a full-time, night shift Licensed Practical Nurse 2 at the Washington Veterans Home!
Please Note: The expected shift for this position is 10:45 p.m. to 6:45 a.m. on a rotating basis.
*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse 2, you assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to residents of the Washington Veterans Home and assist or supervise assigned residents with activities of daily living, monitoring, and recording all aspects of care. You will also supervise care delivered by nursing assistants in your assigned area.
Some of what you'll do:- Pass medications or administer medications and treatments for residents unable to do their own or monitor self-pour medications.
- Process physician orders.
- Assists with routine rehabilitative and maintenance care.
- Report and record physical and psychosocial changes.
- Record actions and findings in medical records.
- Prepare, carry out, evaluate, record, and revise treatment and interdisciplinary care plans for residents.
- Suction patients, administer oxygen, catheterization, irrigation, administer IV solutions, colostomy care, trach care, maintain gastric feeding tubes and pumps, and dressing changes and treatments, both sterile and non-sterile.
- Treat minor ailments such as headaches, stomachaches, colds, influenza, cuts, and scratches.
- Perform eye and ear irrigations, apply surgical dressings and bandages, insert nasogastric tubes, and provide first aid.

- Current Washington State practical nurse license or unencumbered practical nurse multistate license.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English for medical charts and to perform data entry.
Preferred/Desired:
- Currently holds a valid practical nurse license from the State of Washington.
- Long-term care experience and/or one (1) year of experience as a practical nurse.
- Understanding of accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and client rights.
- Experience in assessing, evaluating, and participating in the development of appropriate plans of care.
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
- Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
- Must have the ability to speak, read, and write in the English language for medical charts and data entry.
- Must maintain a valid practical nursing license and provide from the State of Washington Department of Health.
- Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
- Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
