Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty-four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star families.
As a Nursing Assistant Lead, you will assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to residents of the Washington Veterans Home in accordance with current standards of practice. You will also lead and assist other nursing assistants in routine work, develop and implement the daily staffing schedule, provide input to supervisors, and other lead duties.Bring a smile and your vital knowledge to everyone, every day. Some of what you'll do:
- Lead and assist nursing assistants in routine work; develop and implement the daily staffing schedule; provide input to supervisors on performance of nursing assistants; assist in orienting and training new nursing assistants.
- Audit of monitoring/feeding of meals and nourishments.
- Assist with range of motion exercises, observe for and report to licensed personnel changes in resident condition and skin conditions.
- Document the care provided and information regarding the resident; keep licensed staff informed about conditions and alert them to changes; observe, record, and report resident behavior.
- Collect and analyze data for use in quality control functions.
- Serve as information resource to nursing assistants in areas such as automated information systems, supply delivery schedules, and equipment assembly.

- Valid Washington State license to practice as a nursing assistant certified.
- One (1) year of experience as a nursing assistant.
- High school graduation or GED equivalent.
- Six (6) months of experience involving customer service in a healthcare setting or six (6) months of experience involving direct patient care.
- Current, active status on the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) Registry.
- Ability to:
- Speak, read, and write in English for medical charts and to perform data entry.
- Provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs.
- Document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
Preferred/Desired:
- Long-term care experience.
- Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
- Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
- Must remain current on the OBRA Registry.
- Must maintain regular and reliable attendance, proper call-in/call-out, and be willing to work as needed.
- Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation, and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
- Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and the Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
- Must maintain a valid Nursing Assistant Credential from the Washington State Department of Health.
- Must be able to lift 60 lbs. and capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper techniques for resident repositioning or to access supplies.
- Must be capable of pushing or pulling with sufficient strength. Employee must be able to walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner on a consistent basis during the entire workday.
- Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
- Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
