Nature of Work
Make a DIFFERENCE as the Facilities/Equipment Maintenance Technician in the Maintenance Department of Denmar Correctional Center & Jail located in Pocahontas County. This position coordinates on a daily basis with the Building and Grounds Manager to complete maintenance work orders and assigned ongoing projects. Works with an inmate crew to accomplish some tasks. Takes care of keeping the grounds and equipment in good repair. Repairs water lines, roofing, cut trees, keeps perimeter fences and all security systems in good repair and secure. Keeps lights and all other electrical systems operating properly. Makes certain the fleet of vehicles is safe and in good working order. Takes care of boilers and HVAC equipment. Keeps the kitchen equipment in good repair and operating efficiently. Makes sure the walk-in coolers and freezers are operational. Ensures laundry equipment is in good working order. Assists with various inventories and ordering when needed. Considers budgetary issues when repairing systems. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four year apprenticeship program or two year post secondary technical school.
Substitution: Experience in air-conditioning, heating or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.
Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
