Nature of Work
Under general supervision at the full-performance level, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work in connection with the maintenance and repair of state facilities, institutions, and buildings. May assist a skilled worker in performing carpentry, plumbing, masonry, grounds keeping and other maintenance work. This classification may be used for lead work positions in other maintenance related areas. The selected applicant will be responsible for the outside lawn and garden maintenance of the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility. Applicants will mow, weed eat, trim shrubs and bushes, and perform minor repairs on lawn care equipment. Applicants will perform snow removal to all facility sidewalks or parking areas as assigned. Applicants will be on call, as assigned by the Building and Grounds Manager, on a weekly basis. Rotation is dependent on the number of staff in the Maintenance Department. During warm months, selected applicants will work outside, unless otherwise instructed, to maintain the appearance of the facility property. During inclement weather, selected applicants will be utilized inside, helping with all aspects of maintenance and upkeep of the facility. Applicants will perform preventive maintenance, inside and outside the facility, as assigned by the Building and Grounds Manager. Selected applicants will need a driver's license in good standing. Applicants may be required to drive residents to appointments outside of the facility as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Training: No formal education required.
Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in housekeeping, custodial, or general labor work.
