ECB is a state agency that delivers educational, noncommercial, and public safety media via Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. ECB is seeking a Broadcast Engineer (Media Telecommunications Technician) at entry or senior level (depending on qualifications) for our Field Engineering Team.

Broadcast Engineers are responsible for a wide variety of duties, including maintaining, testing, and repairing broadcast systems; monitoring electronic systems status; and performing routine preventive maintenance and services for our regional sites in Southwest Wisconsin. Position Summary

Successful candidate will :

Provide construction, maintenance, and repair support for a wide range of predominately high-power Radio-Frequency (RF) electronic equipment and systems for the ECB

  • Broadcast Interconnect
  • Emergency Alert Systems and AMBER Alerts
  • FM and AM
  • State / Federal All Hazards Radio,
  • Satellite downlink systems

Be expected to progressively develop technical expertise in

  • Analysis, design, and modification of content distribution systems,
  • Media interconnect systems, and
  • Associated RF analog and digital program delivery and transmission monitoring equipment.
  • Occasional standby or on-call status and overnight work may be required.

    Special Requirements :

  • This position requires a variable, non-traditional work schedule including some nights and weekends.
  • A valid Wisconsin driver's license, or the ability to obtain one's own timely transportation throughout the workday, is required.
  • Must be capable of lifting objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance.
  • Classification level will be determined based on the selected applicant's qualifications and experience.

    Salary Information

    This classification is assigned to pay schedule / range 06-63. The starting hourly rate for the Broadcast Engineer (Media Telecommunications Technician), entry or senior position will be $29.00 to $35.00 per hour depending upon candidate qualifications, plus excellent benefits. For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

    This position involves regular and frequent travel. The selected candidate must possess a valid driver's license that meets the State's Risk Management requirements and provide evidence of auto insurance if using a personal vehicle for work or have the ability to obtain reliable transportation on a consistent basis.

    Qualifications

    Minimally qualified applicants will have education, training, or experience in each of the following :

  • Repairing, analyzing, and troubleshooting equipment failures
  • Managing and performing periodic maintenance requirements as related to complex systems and equipment
  • Interpreting diagrams and electrical prints
  • In addition to the above, qualified applicants for the senior level will have education, training, or experience in :

  • AM / FM radio and television broadcast engineering including high power RF systems, HD radio, ATSC systems, and studio to transmitter link systems
  • Network monitoring tools and systems, voltage meters, spectrum analyzers, power meters and network analyzers
