The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Buildings & Grounds Superintendent position. This position is based out of Oshkosh Correctional Institution in Oshkosh, WI (Winnebago County).
Position Summary

This position will plan and direct the institution building and grounds maintenance program and coordinate building construction/remodeling projects with the Department of Administration (DOA), Division of Facilities Development (DFD).
Responsibilities include supervision of trades and non-trades staff, as well as maintaining buildings, property, equipment, and service systems in a safe and reliable operating condition.
This position is also responsible for the planning, direction, coordination of all construction at Oshkosh Correctional Institution (OSCI) regardless of funding source and will work with the Warden, Deputy Warden and Correctional Management Services Director to develop the Biennial Budget, Capital Budget, and the Department of Corrections six-year building project plan.
This position will also conduct routine inspections, develop project requests, make reports, and perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: This position will sometimes work within a wide range of temperatures (extreme hot and cold), in dusty, dirty, or confined areas or areas that may be quite noisy. This position will also work within close physical proximity to Persons in our Care and other staff members. This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to move and lift freely to perform necessary inspections and repairs/construction, including climbing ladders and stairs.
Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-03 with a starting pay of $38.00/hour - $44.33/hour . Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
Anticipated schedule will be Monday – Friday 6:45 AM – 3:30 PM . This position may occasionally work additional hours on a scheduled shift, holidays, or weekends if an urgent need arises.
This position is FLSA Exempt.
This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have:
Experience planning and directing buildings and grounds operations Experience developing and managing repair and/or construction projects Experience working in a leadership or supervisory role (e.g. assigning and reviewing work, training, interviewing applicants, providing performance feedback, etc.)

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have:
Experience managing or leading a preventative maintenance program Experience overseeing complex building systems (such as: heating, cooling, refrigeration, electrical, fire prevention, etc.) Experience managing and/or monitoring a repair and maintenance budget allocation and/or a capital budget.
