Then this may be a good fit for you! The Wisconsin Challenge Academy is currently seeking a Case Manager (Treatment Specialist 1) working with youth 16-18 years old.

The Wisconsin Challenge Academy is a residential alternative education program designed to reclaim the lives of youth and produce graduates with the education, strength of character, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults and become responsible citizens. Position Summary


Under the general supervision of the Lead Counselor, the incumbent will provide direct services to Challenge Academy Graduates and their Mentors. The incumbent will be the main point of contact for Mentors, Graduates, and Legal Guardians of the Challenge Academy during the twelve (12) month Post-Residential Phase. During the twelve (12) month Post-Residential Phase, the incumbent will be responsible for attaining positive contact from the Graduates, positive contacts, and positive verification of the Graduate's placement (i.e. working, schooling, etc.).

The incumbent will be required to create, manage, and organize large data sets via Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, or Google Sheets. The incumbent will also prepare accurate and timely: reports, forms, and records. At times, it may be necessary to consult with other staff members to determine appropriate action(s) to take in specific situations. At times, the incumbent will also be enlisted to help the Counseling Department with Academy Events. This is a highly responsible position, involves independent work, and includes accountability for actions. Occasionally*, this position may be expected to have on-call responsibilities and expected to work nights and weekends as deemed necessary by the Academy Mission.

  • On-call responsibilities, nights, and weekends would occur approximately 7-14 times a year.

Salary Information


Starting pay for the Treatment Specialist 1 $26.97/ hr.

This position is in the 12/64 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details


  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment
  • In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check which includes an FBI fingerprint- based background check
  • Acquire and maintain certification in the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training as prescribed by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
  • All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified candidates will have experience with:

  • Executing case management, maintaining data, and completing timely reports
  • Working with youth and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Customer service skills
  • Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Access, and Google Workspace applications

A well-qualified candidate will also have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university in counseling, social work, sociology, criminal justice, K-12 education or comparable area.
  • Counseling/assisting youth in the planning of personal goals, careers, education
  • Experience with data management/working with large amounts of data and information (collecting data and inputting data)
  • Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team
