Introduction
The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring a General Counsel to the Adjutant General (Attorney- Confidential Supervisor). This position is located at the Joint Force Headquarters building (JFHQ), in Madison.

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Adjutant General, this position serves as General Counsel to the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs (DMA) and its Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) Division and Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) subunits, as well as its HR, budget and finance, and IT directorates. Main duties for the General Counsel include providing legal and policy counsel for the Adjutant General (TAG), the Executive Assistant, Deputy Adjutant Generals (DAGs), the WEM administrator, the OEC director, and DMA directorate heads. The position will also respond to public records requests, draft administrative rules and legislative proposals, provide representation of DMA in legal actions and proceedings, draft and review contracts, research and provide advice regarding environmental matters. The General Counsel will also serve as parliamentarian at Wisconsin Homeland Security Council meetings and draft emergency orders. This position supervises a paralegal and the records and forms officer.
Salary Information
Starting pay is between $50.00 and $56.37 / hr.
This position is in the 71-01 pay schedule / range. A 12-month probationary period will be required.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details
Must possess a degree from an accredited law school.
Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.
Must have the ability to participate in some in-state travel.
Must apply for and obtain a United States Department of Homeland Security secret security clearance.
All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
