Position Summary


Old World Wisconsin is a 600-acre outdoor living history museum located in Eagle, Wisconsin. Guests explore homes, farms, and businesses that come from across Wisconsin, exploring stories of place and perseverance from the 1840s to the 1930s. With a focus on hands exploration and immersive spaces, OWW is a celebrated destination for families and friends making new memories, sharing stories, and connecting to Wisconsin's past as they get inspired for their own futures. Staff work in historic indoor and outdoor spaces in the beauty of the Kettle Moraine State Forest to bring history to life for tens of thousands of guests each summer.

This position has direct responsibility for welcoming guests to Old World Wisconsin, facilitating ticket sales, conveying the daily Old World Wisconsin experience, selling museum memberships, merchandise management, and assisting with museum store retail operations under the direction of the Guest Services Manager. This position will serve as the second lead for guest services, primarily leading retail, cash handling, and merchandising in Caldwell Hall and the Crossroads Creamery.

This position provides welcoming, high quality customer service in alignment with the Mission of WHS and the Vision of Old World Wisconsin. This employee must work well in a fast-paced environment, have experience with point of sales systems, and have a passion for creative, guest-focused service.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Serve as Part of the Guest Services Team

  • Maintain a positive, welcoming attitude at all times
  • Greet and welcome museum guests; provide prompt assistance and anticipate needs
  • Provide clear information relating to the museum experience (including site logistics and suggestions for what to see and do)
  • Become well-versed in museum mission and philosophy, and expert in museum offerings
  • Become familiar with retail merchandise, including seasonal offerings
  • Think on your feet to ensure positive and useful guest interactions that make the start and end of every OWW visit the best it can be
  • Direct guests, in person or via phone, to the appropriate person/party as needed
  • Maintain personal appearance according to museum standards and wear museum approved uniforms

Point of Sale Service

  • Understand and perform all Tier 2 point of sale responsibilities; Tier 2 duties include:
    • Opening money count and drawer opening activities (includes safe access)
    • Maintain and create daily sales sheets for all open drawers
    • Verify at closing of drawers that all daily deposits are accurate and secure
    • Perform basic sales functions (sales, non-validated returns, current ticket voids, holds of admission and retail items)
    • Ability to perform item receiving and item set up duties in Counterpoint
    • Closing money count (includes count, reconcile, and posting)
  • Serve as main point of contact for Caldwell Hall and Crossroads Creamery Counterpoint usage and cash drawers.
  • Fully understand all Society membership levels and benefits and sell to customers
  • Ensure guests are properly charged, receive proper ticketing/identification, and are oriented to site before leaving ticketing area; provide direction and information regarding key points of interest and site logistics

Salary Information


Pay is $16.00 per hour with a weekend differential of 80 cents per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 18-00.

Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.

Job Details


A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 30 hours per week.

Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.

Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.

WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

  • Ability to problem solve and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a semi-outdoor setting and varying weather conditions
  • Occasionally walking, crouching, and standing
  • Ability to move with groups out on site, as needed, distances of ~ .25 miles
  • Able to have physical dexterity and flexibility to work in an office environment
