The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) is currently recruiting for positions in our Spring Nursing Assistant trainee class, (Limited Term Employee (LTE) Nursing Assistant 1 (Trainee)). The position begins with a 18-day training class, the class is scheduled to begin March 24, 2025 at our Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. The class is limited to 8 staff. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary
This is an entry level certified nursing assistant (CNA), or nursing assistant trainee. This position is responsible for providing direct and indirect basic nursing care, while following individual programs, for up to 60 geriatric, disabled and/or cognitively impaired members at the Wisconsin Veterans Home. Nursing care is provided in accordance with standards set by the American Nurses Association, gerontological nursing standards, federal, state, and VA regulations, the mission and philosophy and policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Veterans Home and Department of Veterans Affairs. The nursing assistant trainee participates in and is responsible for providing and maintaining appropriate programs of care, treatment, training, and daily living for members in an assigned area or areas.
Responsibilities include: providing basic nursing care following a written care plan to help meet the therapeutic, preventative, restorative, spiritual, psychosocial, cognitive and rehabilitative needs of the members. This includes some cognitive techniques to help those with memory care needs maintain the highest functional level. This position works as an integral part of the health care team under the direct/close supervision of a Nursing Supervisor, and under the direction of licensed nursing staff.

Salary Information
The pay for this position is $18.42 per hour with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
This job does not offer employee benefits.
The position is in pay schedule-pay range 06-10.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
Nursing Assistant Trainee's must be able to assist with mobility efforts; wear protective clothing and use special safety equipment; lift, carry, push, pull, reach, stand, sit, kneel, squat; stand and/or walk up to 75% of eight-hour day.
Our Nursing Assistant Trainees are required to attend all hours of training with the core hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday – Friday (approximately 3 weeks of training).
The shifts with the greatest need are PM (1:45pm - 10:15pm) and NOC (10:00pm - 6:00am). There is flexibility with scheduling of hours/shifts, in LTE positions, based on departmental need.
LTE jobs are limited to 1,039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.
Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Qualifications
A minimally qualified applicant must be:
- Able to attend all hours of training;
- 16 years of age on or before the effective date of the appointment, March 24, 2025;
- Able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
A well-qualified applicant will have experience performing care procedures, problem solving, and using computers.
