Paralegal (Project Position) - Spooner

This project position has been authorized and the anticipated end date is July 31, 2025. Candidates chosen for a project position may be considered for permanent positions in the near future if any permanent positions become available. Project employees seeking permanent positions would be required to apply through the standard application process.

Employees in project positions of less than 1 year in duration are not eligible for the State of Wisconsin health insurance coverage, and are not eligible to participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System. Starting salary will be between $23.75 and $34.03 per hour, which is in pay schedule/range 07-04. Salary will depend up experience and qualifications, and will be based on rules that apply in the current compensation plan.

Permanent classified state employees who are eligible for consideration (transfer, voluntary demotion, or reinstatement) for a position assigned to the stated pay range or counter-part pay range, should complete the application process as described below by the stated deadline.

Final selected candidates may be eligible for moving expense reimbursement to relocate to the place of employment.

A criminal background check will be done prior to an offer of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Required - Candidates must have experience and/or training relevant to these areas in order to be considered for this position):

1) Preparing legal documents (e.g., drafting pleadings, briefs; gathering records; organizing data, etc.)

A well-qualified candidate will also have experience and/or training in the following areas:

1) Filing court documents electronically

2) Working effectively with people from different ethnic, cultural, political, economic and religious backgrounds

3) Assisting in trial preparation and at trial (e.g., gathering and organizing information; prepare trial notebooks; sit with attorney at trial; offer opinions on potential jurors; sit with witnesses, etc.)

4) Working with the program Westlaw
