Introduction


The Department of Health Services (DHS), Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC) is recruiting to fill two (2) Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers (APNPs) vacancies.

These positions will work Monday through Friday during daytime hours.

WRC is a secure treatment facility that specializes in treating individuals with severe mental health conditions from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. This facility is located on Lake Winnebago with beautiful walking paths by the lake for employees to use during break periods. WRC is part of the Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS). Position Summary


As an APNP, you will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive care for adult populations. You will educate patients to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health, and intervene in acute and chronic illness. You will function independently in managing the direct and indirect care of individuals and consult with nursing staff and staff from other disciplines, regarding planning and evaluating care for patients with multiple general medical and psychiatric problems. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of care and education programs and protocols used by the health care staff to meet the needs of individuals who exhibit health problems across the continuum from prevention to complex general medical and/or psychiatric conditions. Completing Initial Assessments and prescribing medications.
  • Exercising independent judgment and participating directly in the management and care of patients within the scope of your license or certification.
  • Collaborating with members of the WRC multidisciplinary teams.
  • Implementing the diagnosis and treatment of assigned patients and being familiar with recent developments in the field of Psychiatry.
  • Complying with the Department’s administrative rules and the agency’s policies and procedures; including those related to the Department’s overall Recovery philosophy of using evidence-based strategies, practices, and programs which target patient needs and goals.

Salary Information


The starting pay is up to $62.72 per hour depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Salary will be determined based on experience as a psychiatric APNP. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are in pay schedule and range 11/01.

Job Details


All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

Appointee must obtain a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number within 3 months of hire. Please Note: Individuals who are required to obtain a registration in order to carry out duties in a state or federal agency are exempt from registration fees. DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Individuals preparing to graduate from Psychiatric NP program are encouraged to apply. Must be a licensed APNP within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:

  • License or eligible for license as an APNP with an emphasis in psychiatric/mental health by the State of Wisconsin. Eligible includes currently registered as an APNP in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in WI OR you are within 3 months of graduation from a professional APNP program with an emphasis in psychiatric/mental health. License must be obtained within 3 months of hire.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience performing psychiatric assessments of adult patients.
  • Experience working with patients with mental health and substance abuse issues.
  • Experience functioning independently in managing psychiatric patients in an inpatient facility.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record (e.g., Cerner, Epic, etc.).
