Transportation Specialist Senior or Advanced - Construction/Design Lead - 2 positions!

Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation System Development, Southeast Region, is seeking 2 Transportation Specialist Senior or Advanced . These positions will perform various duties in the construction and design phases of transportation projects. The headquarters for the positions is in Waukesha, WI at 141 NW Barstow Street.

This position requires a large amount of field work during the construction season. During the construction season, the position may be in the field 5 days per week. At times this position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Waukesha State Office Building at least 2 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary

These positions function within the Project Development section of the Southeast Region performing a variety of duties on transportation improvement projects in both the construction and design phases. Performance is under the general direction of an engineer or engineering supervisor. These positions contribute to a team by performing independently a high degree of specialized engineering duties as a construction leader and / or design leader on larger projects including complex and Mega projects. The positions may coach other team members on that specialty.

The essential functions of these jobs is to lead or assist in constructing and designing highway improvement projects. This requires reading and math comprehension and technical writing skills; working outside in all seasons including adverse weather conditions; and work in high volume urban and rural traffic conditions. The positions will require travel to project sites within the Region to conduct project field reviews, meet with property owners, or meet with local municipalities.

Salary Information

The Transportation Specialist Senior is in schedule-range 14-14 with an annual salary of $63,170-$72,800.

The Transportation Specialist Advanced is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $67,746-$87,360.

Both positions include excellent benefits . A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

  • Experience reading and interpreting design or construction plans and contract documents.
  • Experience in engineering principles utilized in construction.
