What are the responsibilities and job description for the State Police Communications Technician position at State Police, Division of?
The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The State Police Communications Technician, SG-18, will be assigned to the Communications Section at Division Headquarters, Albany, New York; however, travel throughout New York State will be necessary for training, special events or to provide command post support.Configure, program, install and troubleshoot networks, computer systems and infrastructure supporting public safety radiocommunications systems and similar technologies.Provide technical support on any emergency or exercise performing on-scene setup of any or all technical systems aboard any Emergency Command Vehicle or other temporary communications facility.Responsible for scheduled maintenance and repair of emergency communications technology.Maintain, repair, test, configure and install all fixed, mobile, or portable components of land mobile radio communications equipment.Maintain liaison with outside vendors for preventative maintenance and repair services and report any deviations from the contracts.Perform such other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications High School graduate or equivalentANDMinimum of four (4) years experience in computer science, networking, telecommunications, electronics, and/ or radio maintenance.An associate's degree in computer science, electrical technology, engineering or a related field may substitute for two years of experience. A bachelor's degree in the above field may substitute for four years of experience.Preference will be given to candidates with a valid New York State driver's license and who can lift and carry 50 pounds.
