State Technical College of Missouri is accepting application for a full time, 12 month, exempt, benefit eligible (State Tech and MOSERS) Director of Accounting position for the Business Office. This position provides leadership, technical advice, and supervision to all Business Office personnel. The Director of Accounting is responsible for complex duties requiring application of professional accounting knowledge and experience. This position guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures and protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the area of business administration and/or accounting.
- Seven years of progressively responsible advanced accounting experience including the preparation of complex financial statements. Governmental accounting experience is preferred.
- Current active CPA License.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, motivate and supervise personnel as well as carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws including planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees.
- Superior communication and human relations skills including the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, faculty, staff, students, parents, auditors, and other employees of the College and the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships.
- Exceptional working knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the ability to apply them in the preparation of financial statements and complex transactions.
- Strong computer skills including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong writing and reading skills and the ability to apply them in preparing and interpreting all kinds and methods of correspondence.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and professionalism.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise all Business Office staff and departments within the Business Office – Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Bookstore, and Dining
- Oversee all accounting operations of the College, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the College’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with GASB financial reporting standards
- Monitor all information and data processing systems used by the Business Office to ensure financial information is being accurately and timely processed. Maintain an accurate College inventory/fixed asset list and inventory/fixed asset tracking system
- Interact directly with academic and non-academic departments to maintain successful purchasing, budget, and inventory management practices
- Ensure grant requirements are followed, grant billings are completed and submitted timely and an indirect cost rate for the College is maintained
- Assist with processing monthly payroll.
- Ensure year-end reporting, i.e. 1098ts, 1099s, W-2’s, etc. is completed accurately and timely
- Provide significant assistance with the annual budget process
- Provide significant assistance with the annual audit
- Perform other related duties as needed or assigned
