DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
STATE THEATRE CENTER FOR THE ARTS, INC.
The State Theatre Center for the Arts is a non-profit, member-supported 501(c)3 cultural organization located in historic downtown Easton, PA. In operation since 1926, and approaching its Centennial Anniversary, the State Theatre is on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to presenting year-round performances in its 1,500-seat theatre, featuring national tours of Broadway’s hottest shows, acclaimed musical acts, and entertainment’s top comedians, the State Theatre regularly hosts exhibits and events in its modern Gallery and magnificent Ballroom. The State Theatre’s signature arts education program is the nationally recognized FREDDY© Awards, which recognizes and rewards exceptional accomplishment in local high school musical theatre programs.
The State Theatre is looking for a focused, results-oriented, and energetic Development Director to lead its development team. Reporting to the President & CEO, the Development Director serves as the principal fundraising strategist and primary major gift officer of the Theatre. The Director is responsible for the development, management, and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program consistent with the Theatre’s current needs and long-term goals for sustainability and growth. The Director is a primary ambassador for the organization, both inside and outside of the Theatre, and plays a key role in cultivating the Theatre’s quality connection with the community at large.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively manage and meet revenue goals to support the State Theatre’s operations, including:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that identifies, secures, and grows the donor base to meet fundraising targets, including:
- Individual memberships & annual fund donations
- Sponsorships
- Private and corporate foundations and government giving
- Special events
- Other sources, such as major gifts, capital/building campaigns, and planned giving
- Serve as a front-line solicitor to nurture relationships with existing donors and identify and secure new support to increase contributed income from individuals and institutions.
- Develop compelling grant proposals and sponsorship decks to secure support for a wide array of public programs.
- Manage and execute all development related aspects of the annual FREDDY© Awards, including sponsorships and community awards.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts, including increasing membership in the Priority Membership donor categories.
- Support the President & CEO with Board stewardship and growth, including management of the Board’s Development Committee.
- Monitor all donor information and prepare statistical analysis and reports for the President & CEO and executive team.
- Manage all logistics to ensure a seamless execution of Development events.
- Regularly attend State Theatre programs, VIP receptions, and donor cultivation events.
- Represent the State Theatre at corporate, government, and community functions as appropriate.
- Work in collaboration with other departments to determine specific theatre needs and match them to donors’ interests.
- Manage the Development Department revenue and expense budgets in coordination with the CFO.
- Supervise and mentor a small team of development professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- 6 years of non-profit fundraising experience with demonstrated success in development functions and raising $1 million annually.
- 3 years of management experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the greater Easton, PA fundraising communities with a strong network of relationships with high-net-worth individuals, program officers, and corporate executives.
- Strategic thinker with in-depth knowledge of fundraising methodology, including prospect research, proposal preparation, and the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors.
- Experience with budget preparation and management.
- Experience working with volunteer Boards of Trustees and Development Committees.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Passion for the performing arts.
COMPENSATION: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $90,000. The State Theatre provides a benefit package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off, in addition to all federal holidays; as well as, an employee contributed 403b program.
