This is a full-time, Office Assistant 1 (Stores/Mail), 12-month, contingent permanent, SG06, CSEA represented position with an entry level salary of $35,177.
Working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and utilizing a working knowledge and understanding of SUNY and campus policies and procedures, the Office Assistant 1 typically spends their time in Mail Services and Central Receiving performing activities related to package/mail receipt and distribution. Performance of these activities requires an acceptable skill level and knowledge to operate mail/ package machinery, and carry out routine clerical and manual activities in the processing and delivery of incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
Office Assistants 1 perform entry-level clerical and office support work, including processing transactions and maintaining records in a variety of organizational settings. Any given assignment may encompass a broad or narrow range of activities. Office Assistant 1 is a non-supervisory class found at nearly all State agencies.
DUTIES
Load and unload shipments from trucks and move boxes/items to designated areas
Prepare, sort, and distribute mail/packages in accordance with the rules and regulations of the U.S. Postal Service and with procedures issued by the Office of General Services that govern the processing of outgoing communications
Sort and distribute incoming mail/packages including operation of a motor vehicle to pick up and deliver mail/packages
Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks
Process outgoing mail/packages - inspect for complete address, proper postage, sealing, typing and packaging to withstand normal handling
Keep records of packages, registered mail, insured mail, and certified mail received and sent
Work with 8-10 student workers to process and deliver mail
Operate and maintain office machines including mailing and folding machines
Prepare routine reports as required
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
