Duties: The State University of New York at New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz) is seeking a highly motivated and creative director to join the University’s Science of Reading Center to increase the profile and effectiveness of the Center at SUNY New Paltz and throughout New York. This position would oversee key aspects of the Center’s marketing strategy, including developing comprehensive in-field and digital marketing plans, launching campaigns, managing budgets, as well as analyzing market data and trends. This 2-year full-time position would work closely with the Center’s Executive Director and the Executive Director of Communication and the University’s Office of Communication & Marketing (OCM) team.
The Science of Reading Center, SUNY New Paltz is a hub for preK-12 educators in New York and nationwide to build their knowledge, preparation, and strategies to provide evidence-based reading instruction and practice to deliver on the promise of equitable education for all children.
Strategic Planning and Market Analysis
- Create and execute long-term marketing strategies aligned with the Center’s mission and objectives, including market segmentation, positioning, and brand development for
- Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, competitor analysis, and
- Develop structures and strategies to attract new learners and retain existing ones
management, including the transition to a fit-for-purpose CRM to manage lists and
direct marketing.
- Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and advertising strategies across
York and other target states.
- Utilize various strategies such as top-of-the funnel awareness marketing, content
social media, email (direct) marketing, Search Engine Optimization, website, printed
collateral, podcasts, and radio.
- Proactively build and maintain relationships with local, state and national K-12
the University Spokesperson/Executive Director of Communication to coordinate
efforts.
- Work in a small internal team and with organizational, state, and district partners.
- Work with the SUNY New Paltz Office of Communication and Marketing
- Leverage a network of experts and content creators, designers, and analysts to
- Align marketing efforts with implementation team to generate leads, drive inquiries
- With Communication & Marketing colleagues, ensure the Center’s design, print, web,
Reading Center’s and University’s brand standards and utilizes the University’s design,
content publishing tools, and identity, video and editorial style guidelines.
- Ensure the Science of Reading Center brand is integrated with the University-wide brand
- Partner with the Center’s Executive Director and the Center’s Fellows on live and virtual
regionally, and nationally.
- Schedule and orchestrate virtual and in person events to promote the work of the
- Organize an annual symposium to build community for educators around the science of
- Work with OCM to promote the events on campus, throughout New York state, and
- Allocate and manage the Center’s marketing budget effectively, tracking return rates,
- Develop reports and dashboards (where possible) to support data-driven decision making
- Monitor and analyze internal marketing data and analytics to assess and report on the
resources, audience engagement and development and make data-driven adjustments.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or at least seven (7) years relevant marketing experience in lieu of degree
- Four years or more of experience in best-in-class marketing, communications, content marketing, or a related field and knowledge of marketing and strategic communication
- Outstanding written, oral, and visual communication skills
- Strong collaboration skills, organization skills, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to meet deadlines
- Experience collaborating to design and build websites
- Design and execution of digital marketing campaigns using tools and social media platforms including Facebook, lnstagram, YouTube, X and other platforms as needed
- An analytic approach and a desire to make informed decisions based on data
- Computer-literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, customer relationship management, website design, SEO and online analytics, and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop comprehensive marketing plans and make data-driven decisions
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading and motivating marketing teams
- Analytical Skills: Expertise in market research, data analysis, and interpreting marketing
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to convey marketing
- Creativity: Ability to develop innovative marketing campaigns and concepts
- Digital Marketing Proficiency: Understanding of digital marketing channels like SEO,
- Budgeting and Financial Management: Skills to manage marketing budgets effectively
- Passion for the mission of the Center, commitment to literacy education and respect for integrated marketing communication principles.
- Experience using a content management system to develop and maintain websites.
- Marketing and advertising experience, including creating online and print ads, placing
- Experience using an e-mail marketing platform to build, send and assess promotional
- Experience with digital content creation including video, audio and photography
