Duties: Maintenance Assistants use hand and shop tools to perform semiskilled maintenance and repair work on structures and equipment.

Although positions in this class are found in many State agencies most are assigned to agencies which operate and maintain buildings and other structures and facilities, recreational facilities, roads, and equipment.

Candidates must meet the posting qualifications required, meet the legitimate operating needs of the department or agency and have the ability to perform duties and responsibilities satisfactorily.
Valid NYS Driver’s License

• Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades to which assigned.
• Ability to read plans, specifications, manuals, and blueprints.
• Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment, and materials of the trade or trades to which assigned.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
