What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Counselor, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) position at State University of New York at Plattsburgh?
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic and personal support for historically disadvantaged students who have diverse talents, strengths, experiences and needs. The counseling services provided will focus on adaptation to the campus environment, goal development, academic planning, problem resolution techniques, and other areas that promote self-sufficiency and independence. Responsibilities will include advisement to an assigned caseload of EOP students; providing information and guidance relative to career development, financial aid, housing registration and other relevant areas on a walk-in, appointment, or “group” basis; and ongoing reviews of academic progress and proactive support which may include outreach and collaboration with other campus departments. Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) opens the door to higher education for students who might not otherwise have a chance to pursue their college dream. We are part of the Enrollment and Student Success division which supports a student’s entire collegiate experience from the point of admission through to graduation. We partner with students, faculty and staff to provide a network of opportunities and services that lead to student success. Collectively, the division of Enrollment and Student Success positively influences the health, safety and well-being of the student body. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs, and practices.
