Position Summary

This associate director is a live-off position that is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and retaining a diverse and inclusive professional and student staff. The associate director also serves as the primary contact with other internal and external constituents and will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships and create new ways for collaboration. The Associate Director also works closely with our summer conference team as the department lead for summer scheduling and housing. This role includes the direct supervision of professional staff.

Major Responsibilities

Recruitment and Hiring

  • Develop practices that ensure the diverse and inclusive representation of staff and the assessment of the same
  • Direct the recruitment process for the live-in professional staff including marketing the positions, creating and evaluating the applications, attending conferences and job fairs, interviewing candidates, and coordinating interviews
  • Direct the coordination of the recruitment and selections of Resident Assistants, including marketing and advertising establishing a fair and effective process, and coordinating the review and selection of candidates
  • Chair the Residence Life and Housing recruitment committee, which includes creating and evaluating RA applications, organizing and coordinating interviews, meet and greets, and onboarding sessions
  • Coordinate the student staff discipline/coaching process
  • Create and maintain records of employment and payroll for Resident Assistants to ensure accurate payroll notifications and communication
  • Use campus hiring software for hiring of professional staff members
  • Regularly assess the hiring practices as well as provide other assessment for the office upon request
  • Chair and participate in search committees for professional live-in positions, and others as needed

Summer Camps and Conferences

  • Coordinate the hiring process of summer student staff
  • Direct the housing program for any outside groups (camps and conference) in college housing, including EOP and Orientation
  • Facilitate billing for camps and conferences which includes working with conference services to determine bulling cost, and applying invoices to groups who stay on campus
  • Supervise the staff assigned to camps and conferences and serve as the secondary supervisor for the summer student staff members

Supervision

  • Supervise approximately 4 – 6 live-in professional staff and their associated buildings and hall staff
  • Lead, manage, supervise, and support the development of supervisees in a manner that is appropriate to each individual and consistent with respective Bargaining Agreements and College policies and procedures. Collaborate with Human Resources to address and resolve concerns regarding employee performance, misconduct, or other personnel-related concerns
  • Recommend hiring and renewal or permanent appointment for supervisees as appropriate. Develop and discuss performance programs and conduct performance evaluations in a timely manner consistent with the employee’s respective Bargaining Agreement and College policies and procedures

Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary partner and liaison with a variety of constituents both established and newly created to continue successful working relationships and foster new opportunities for the Office, Division, and the University, including the University Police Department, Campus Activities, Educational Opportunity Program summer program, Payroll, Advisement and Transition, Admissions, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer and Human Resources
  • Build relationships and cultivate a strong positive, inclusive and productive working environment
  • Serve on both departmental and campus committees as deemed appropriate by the director of Residence Life and Housing
  • Work with the Emergency Manager to review and update Emergency Procedure information for the office on an annual basis, in conjunction with the Emergency Preparedness Committee.


Functional and Supervisory Relationships

  • Supervises half of the professional live-on staff and serves as secondary supervisor to their student staff.
  • Works closely with Residence Life and Housing professional staff as a member of the leadership team.
  • Reports directly to the director of Residence Life and Housing.


Required Qualifications

Master’s degree

  • Five years of experience within a higher education setting
  • Supervising experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Residence Life and/or housing experience



Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, etc.)

  • Experience managing staff recruitment, hiring and retention in a college student affairs setting,
  • Experience partnering with multiple college offices to benefit student success
  • Experience with program assessment specific to staff hiring
  • Experience with Maxient, Housing Software, and/or Banner


Salary : $72,000 - $82,000
