SUNY Cortland is accepting applications for a Full Time Lecturer in the Physical Education Department starting the 2025/2026 academic year. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of activity coursework including but not limited to sport models, aquatics, dance, fitness, outdoor pursuits, and team, individual and dual performance activities. Major Responsibilities
Primary responsibility is teaching a variety of physical activity courses to undergraduate and graduate physical education teacher candidates. Expertise in teaching a wide variety of activity areas such as sport models, aquatics, dance, fitness, outdoor pursuits, and team, individual and dual performance activities. Applicants must be familiar with skill assessment and analyzing sport skill, decision making, and fitness competence and be flexible in adapting to departmental needs.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to the Physical Education Department Chair
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or teaching certification in physical education.
- Master’s degree in physical education or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Public school and/or college teaching experience.
- Expertise in teaching and modeling best practices in physical education instruction.
- Experience working with diverse populations and modifying instruction to meet student needs.
- Experience with skill progressions across different grade/age spans.
- Expertise in additional areas such as gymnastics, dance, racket activities, fitness education, aquatics, archery, lifetime activities, self-defense etc.
