What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer 2025 Conference Assistant position at State University of New York, Cortland?
/Duties
Conference related responsibilities include working with the summer camps and conferences program to provide customer service for visitors and guests, check in and check-out procedures, distributing and collecting keys and providing hall duty coverage. Applicants will also assist with Orientation housing responsibilities.
At times, Conference Assistants may be asked to assist in the Residence Life and Housing Office. Responsibilities include providing customer support, providing assistance for training programs, assisting with hall opening procedures, and working on special assignments/tasks.
Summer Assistants will be expected to live on campus in a residence hall and serve in an infrequent duty rotation assisting conferences and camps with lockouts and other overnight issues.
Applicants should be available for a minimum of 10 hours a week, mostly during the college’s business hours and on weekends. Applicants are permitted to work other employment with this position. SUNY Cortland limits the total number of hours a student employee can work across positions at the university in a given week to 20 hours per week for students taking classes during the summer term and 29 hours a week to students not taking classes during the summer term. This time limit does not apply if a student is working for CAS/Campus Dining or at an off-campus location.
This position is not compatible with the summer Orientation Assistant position. Candidates will not be able to work both positions.

Days/Hours Needed
Generally, office hours will be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Conference assistant related responsibilities will sometimes include evening and weekend work.
Schedules can be flexible as conference and office needs vary depending on the schedule during the summer. Minimum of 10 hours will be scheduled each week working either in the office or on conference duties. Some weeks may have more hours available.

Campus Location/Bldg.
Conference work be at both the Residence Life and Housing Office in addition to also working within the residence halls across campus.
Required Qualifications
Must be an enrolled SUNY student for the Fall 2025 semester.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working with the Office of Residence Life and Housing is preferred.
Physical Demands
Limited physical demands, but position may be required to stand for long periods of time, manipulate keys and locks, and conduct visual inspections of residential spaces.
