What are the responsibilities and job description for the Delivery Driver (Independent Contractor) position at State-Wide Delivery Service?
Job Description: On-Call Independent Delivery Driver
We seek dependable and professional Independent Delivery Drivers to complete time-sensitive deliveries on an on-call basis. As an independent contractor, you will use your vehicle to transport items safely and efficiently. This is a contract position and not an employee/employer role, meaning you have full control over your work as long as you meet contract requirements.
What You’ll Be Delivering:
Drivers will primarily transport medical specimens to and from healthcare facilities, laboratories, and other medical locations. These items are often critical to patient care. They must be delivered with the utmost care and timeliness to remain intact, uncompromised, and within the required timeframes. Your role directly impacts patient outcomes, making reliability and attention to detail essential.
Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to delivery dispatch notifications, ensuring pick-ups occur within one hour of being dispatched.
- Safely and efficiently deliver medical specimens within the specified delivery timeframe, following all handling and safety protocols.
- Wear the provided identifying vest and badge during all delivery assignments.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, representing the company positively while interacting with clients and recipients.
- Strictly avoid smoking cigarettes or cigars while completing deliveries, as this is prohibited.
Requirements:
- Must own a reliable and insured vehicle suitable for deliveries.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
- Flexible availability to respond to on-call delivery requests promptly.
- Commitment to meeting delivery deadlines and ensuring specimens are transported securely and safely.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow handling and delivery instructions precisely.
- Must provide proof of driver's license and auto insurance.
- Must submit Driving Record History via DMV.
Disqualifications:
Applicants will not be eligible for this role if they meet any of the following criteria:
- Any conviction for DUI (Driving Under the Influence) or OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) within the past 7 years.
- Vehicular manslaughter convictions.
- Any convictions for theft of any kind or violent crimes.
- Drug-related convictions within the past 5 years.
- More than 3 accidents within the last 6 months.
Key Notes:
- This is an on-call position, meaning drivers will only be paid when they complete deliveries. If no deliveries are completed, there is no payment for that time.
- Drivers are expected to be available during the time windows they provide. If a driver is called upon and refuses or declines a delivery three times, they will be removed from the driver list.
- If a driver does not answer their phone or return a dispatcher’s call in a timely manner after stating they are available, they will be removed from the driver list immediately.
- Payments are made on a net-15 schedule, meaning drivers will be paid 15 days after an invoice period ends.
- Deliveries are time-sensitive, and promptness is essential to maintain client satisfaction and ensure critical medical items are delivered securely and on time.
If you’re a self-motivated individual who values independence, thrives under time constraints, and understands the importance of reliability, this role is perfect for you!
