Duties Description The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is seeking qualified candidates for consideration to serve as an Investigator in one of its five divisions, though cross-over and collaboration among divisions occurs. The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) investigates a range of criminal activities associated with the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), including but not limited to the following : violent acts resulting in serious injury or death, threats of violence, gun and drug distribution and possession, and criminal organizations engaged in extremist violence or terrorist activities. CID participates in several task forces and intelligence centers and has a Canine Unit, dedicated to interdicting controlled substances and other contraband. The Internal Affairs Division (IAD) investigates a wide range of allegations of violations of the Department's policies and criminal laws, including staff misconduct (e.g., excessive force), incarcerated individual / releasee misconduct, unattended deaths in facilities, and escape plots. The Sex Crimes Division (SCD) specializes in the investigation of unauthorized relationships, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and related misconduct between incarcerated individuals or releasees and Departmental staff. The Fugitive Investigations Division (FID) specializes in fugitive apprehensions and returning fugitives to New York. The Intake, Training, and Analysis Division (ITAD) is responsible for the processing of thousands of complaints annually, the training of OSI staff, and performing analysis of data to identify potential issues and prioritize resource allocation and provide OSI with a tactical, case by case analytical role, providing investigators with direction and support in their investigations.

Minimum Qualifications DOCCS OSI is seeking qualified candidates to be considered for available openings as an Investigator in one of five OSI divisions. The OSI office location would be determined based upon the needs of the Department and OSI. An Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations pertaining the subject matter of the assigned division within the assigned geographic region. Investigators are required to manage their own caseload and independently conduct investigative activities, and work well with superiors, peers, subordinates, facility staff, and all others. Investigators also work with other investigators on special operations, such as surprise inspections, parole absconder details, and monitoring operations. The Investigator will report directly to a Senior Investigator within the assigned division, with additional supervision by the Assistant Deputy Chief Investigator and Deputy Chief Investigator. The qualifications include at least two years' investigative experience. OSI may accept relevant advanced educational degrees (i.e., above high school or GED) as a substitute for investigative experience on a two-years education for one-year investigative experience basis for all of OSI's peace officer positions. For example, an associate degree (2 years) in criminal justice and forensic science can be substituted for one year of investigative experience, and a bachelor's degree (4 years) in a pre-law and criminal justice can be substituted for two years' investigative experience. Candidates should also have exhibited demonstrated leadership qualities. Knowledge of the subject matter is preferred.

OSI investigative staff must possess, at a minimum, knowledge of the applicable laws, the highest levels of behavior including personal integrity and ethics; fairness; character; judgment; attitude; and respect for and ability to work with others inside and outside OSI. Appropriate licensure and certifications (including being or becoming a peace officer qualified to carry a firearm) are also required. The ability to travel is also necessary. Additional Comments Locations : Albany, Long Island City, Wallkill, Fishkill, Groveland, Clinton, Utica, Rochester, or Buffalo. Office assignments are based upon the needs of OSI and the Department. Travel is required.
