Job Title:
Plumbing and Steam Fitting Technician
Job Summary:
This is a journey-level plumbing and steam fitting position that will perform repair, maintenance, and installation of various plumbing fixtures and appliances, water distribution lines, sewer infrastructure components, natural gas or propane supply lines, HVAC appliances, components, and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Repair, maintain, and install various plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, hot water appliances, etc.
- Repair, maintain, and install water distribution lines, sewer infrastructure components, and natural gas or propane supply lines.
- Repair, maintain, and install HVAC appliances, components, and systems.
- Plan and lay out projects, including preparing materials lists and placing orders in compliance with NYS purchasing guidelines.
- Execute projects and tasks that require excavation and/or confined space entry.
- Assist in the location of underground utility infrastructure.
- Assist in the operation and testing of potable water supplies and wastewater treatment systems.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned hand and power tools to ensure they are in good working order and in compliance with applicable standards.
- Operate commercial vehicles in the execution of departmental projects, including commercial septic pumper truck.
- Maintain daily activity reports, along with other required written records.
- Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
- Work effectively in a team setting and demonstrate flexibility in tasks and schedules.
Requirements:
- Four years of full-time experience* in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
- A valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
- A valid Class B* Commercial Driver's License with airbrake and tanker endorsements that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
- A Backflow Preventer Testing Certification or obtain one within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
- Water Operators Certificates or obtain as assigned.
- Confined Space Entry training within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
- Knowledge and experience working with applicable hand and power tools associated with the plumbing and steam fitting trade.
- Ability to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
- Physical ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
