What are the responsibilities and job description for the Press Operator - Swing position at States Industries Llc?
Load Press in a timely fashion. Make Tickets according to the lay up list provided. Ensure press settings are being used according to the POSs posted. Perform all labor entries accurately and record on press report in a readable manner. Perform quality checks on every load loaded into the Press and provide instant feedback to either press, spreader, or bond adhesive technician. This position is also responsible for off bearing the press when needed and doing bond checks. Tag and separate all loads according to SOPs and POSs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Load and unload press.
- Calculate loads and size of orders and communicate this to Spreader Crews
- Set pressure and heat cycle times.
- Trim all excess veneer from infeed side of press.
- Keep track of glue tack time.
- Quality checks on one-step core lines on every load
- Communicate and provide instant feedback to Spreader crews on any defects noticed.
- Inspect and maintain press plates every hour and document
- Clean Area around Press and Spreaders throughout shift
- Breakdown loads for the Spreader as time allows.
- Help team achieve routing hour goals and 3.0% fall down
- Use Micrometer to measure thickness of One-Step lay up and record on proper form
- Communicate with Glue Mixer on Spreads and Tack level
- Be Safety Conscious at all times
- Participate in Kaizen, 5S events, Safety and/or Quality Spoke.
- General housekeeping duties within immediate area.
- Must support the team in achieving all Safety, Production and Quality goals.
- Support other press teams on shift
- Must have the ability to operate a micrometer and complete required paperwork
- Must have the ability to work 15 to 20 Feet off the ground and wear fall protection while on the press
- Ability to read and understand the layup list
- Must be trained in lockout / tagout procedures
- Drive forklift daily at break times
- Be able to match the grades & species of wood with the load tickets
- Communicate with spreader driver when moving loads between presses
- Observe any defects in the panels and communicate them to the spreader, press, and bond adhesive technician
- Communicate with glue mixer on all glue related issues
- Perform bond checks at a minimum of every half hour and document results
- Clean Presses as needed.
- Inspect loads from spreader for core laps, core voids and other defects
- Other duties as assigned by the production mentor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully the person must have good organizational skills and be self-motivated.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Good hand/eye coordination.
- Basic computer skills; working knowledge of a MRP system
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Good communication skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to understanding and carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
