What are the responsibilities and job description for the SCP Mentor - Graveyard position at States Industries Llc?
Shift Schedule: Tuesday - Thursday 6:00pm-4:30am & Friday 2:30pm-1:00am
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage SCP productivity to meet sales needs and cost targets
- Manage SCP labor cost
- Work closely with other departments to ensure product flow from materials through shipping.
- Focus on elimination of waste. Maintain and sustain all improvements made in these areas
- Maintain and sustain TWI throughout SCP Area
- Lead and Participate in improvement activities, including Kaizen, 5S
- Supervise and Mentor leaders to ensure company goals are met.
- Ensure that organization is focused on determining cause of failures and implementing sustainable improvements to underlying systems and processes as a means of corrective action.
OUTCOMES
- Flow (no WIP through capacity balancing and systemic waste elimination)
- Pull (link work centers, virtually or physically, so upstream area can only deliver what downstream area is immediately ready to work on)
- Targeted improvements related to labor cost (locally), quality (plant wide), and on time (plant wide).
- Well trained, flexible work force capable across all functions in each work area (TWI training)
METHODS
- 75% time spent on shop floor observing process and assessing opportunities for improvement, reviewing the work flow.
- Up to 2 hours per day spent in meetings that are designed to review plant performance, discuss improvement plan, and ensure that resources are properly deployed (C&M specifically).
- Up to 2 hours per day spent with Improvement Coaches, Production Mentors, and Teams ensuring continuity of standard process/training/organizational needs/etc.
- Monthly facilitating or leading of a kaizen event.
NECESSARY SKILLS
- Significant Wood Products/Mill environment experience
- Full working knowledge and application of Lean Manufacturing methods, including Kaizen, 5S, TWI, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to be an innovative problem solver and critical thinker utilizing problem solving and process improvement methods on an individual and team basis as a participant and leader.
- Strong written and oral communication skills (including communication of information, building & achieving agreement and support, establishing specifications and procedures).
- Ability to represent States Industries well in contact with Customers and Vendors.
- Capability to relate well to operating and managing personnel in a team-based environment.
- Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Windows/Office platform.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and projects to completion with minimal supervision, while balancing competing priorities - and also creating a standardized framework for others to follow.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of company and self.
- Ability to think and problem solve scientifically
- Understand how to use and interpret data statistically
- Strong focus on achieving and exceeding budgeted results
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3-5 years Manufacturing Management experience.
- Significant experience and/or Education with focus on Manufacturing, Lean, or Technical related discipline.
- A strong background and interest in wood properties, characteristics, processing, and/or utilization.
- Working experience in wood products industrial environment or equivalent is required.
- Career history/goals including management of people and processes within a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelors Degree in technical field preferred
