Research Intern - Summer 2025

The States United Democracy Center, a nonpartisan organization focused on the critical role states play in election protection, is hiring a Research Intern to support the work of our Research & Analytics department for the Summer 2025 term.

The States United Democracy Center is a nonpartisan organization advancing free, fair, and secure elections. We connect state and local officials, law enforcement leaders, and pro-democracy partners across America with the tools and expertise they need to safeguard democracy. We are guided by a bipartisan Advisory Board of former state and federal officials, issue experts, and law enforcement leaders from both major political parties who are committed to protecting the will of the people and the rule of law.

Job Overview:

Working closely with a Senior Researcher, the Research Intern provides administrative and programmatic support to the Research and Analytics team. The Intern has an opportunity to learn about quantitative and qualitative research, democracy and election protection, and the operations of a non-profit. 

Responsibilities:

• Assist in desk research on election and rule of law topics.
• Help code data and gather data sources for various databases. 
• Support staff in drafting, proofreading, and fact-checking research materials, research reports, and memos. 
• Conduct online research and support writing of background memos.
• Attend and take notes at meetings and prepare lists of follow-up tasks.
• Additional responsibilities may include providing research support as needed for litigation and report rollouts. 

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university with an interest in political science or related field. 
• Must be able to work 20 hours per week
• Demonstrated passion for States United’s issues and the following skills and competencies:

  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently on projects from conception to completion
  • Ability to work under pressure at times

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest in working on issues of election protection, voting rights, rule of law, and/or democracy protection

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary for this position will be $17 per hour

We have offices located in Boston, MA, New York, NY, and Washington, DC.  This internship can also be remote.
