The Battalion Chief protects the lives and property of citizens by supervising and managing the divisions found within the Statesboro Fire Department to include both routine and emergency situations. This position also performs assigned administrative tasks.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists the Operations Division Chief with preparation of department budget and monitoring of expenditures as it relates to assigned areas of responsibility;Monitors and maintains department issue reporting process; Directs and facilitates the correction of those issues;Monitors and maintains apparatus and equipment check forms to insure accountability for the same;Manages and schedules maintenance and repair of firefighting apparatus and equipment;Manages communication equipment including but not limited to portable radios, mobile radios and pagers;Ensures that all firefighting personnel are equipped with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and duty uniforms;Manages and maintains appropriate levels of general, janitorial and office supplies within the department’s logistical warehouse;Ensures that all Firefighting Equipment is tested, certified, inspected and replaced as necessary. This would include but not limited to ladders, hose, fire pumps and SCBAs; Acts as the department’s liaison between the City Shop and outside vendors to ensure that Preventative Maintenance, repairs and other issues regarding the department’s vehicles and other equipment are addressed appropriately;Assists the Operations Division Chief with various projects and tasks that are assigned to the Operations Division;Responds and assists with Command Functions and Fire Suppression at large fires and other incidents as needed on and off duty;Prepares correspondence, proposals, rules and regulations, policies and various reports;Attends training seminars, workshops, conferences and conventions;
