Bus Drivers-Part Time: Summer Camp
Staunton City Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for Part-Time, Recreational Day Trip/Summer Camp Drivers. Hourly Rate commensurate with experience, $18.00/hour - $25.00/hour. No benefits.
Job Summary:
Drive participants to and from assigned destinations on pre-set dates in a safe and efficient manner.
Summer Camp field trips will run once a week, typically on a Wednesday or Friday, with a duration of approximately 7 hours. School bus may be used for Summer Camp field trips only.
Recreational day trip dates will vary, and will be assigned upon availability. Drivers can expect a full day’s trip consisting of 8 to 12 hours. All department recreational day trips will use a 25-passenger bus. Most trips are under 3 hours in one direction.
Pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol testing and criminal background check required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
- To conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus or 25 passenger bus prior to every trip for defects;
- To operate bus on approved time schedule;
- To report bus accidents and participant injuries to authorities;
- To instruct riders regarding being responsible passengers;
- To drive with safety of passengers as first priority;
- To demonstrate knowledge of rules/regulations promulgated by local, state and federal authorities;
- To be able to communicate and work well with all recreational staff and;
- To be subject to pre-employment physical and drug screening and;
- To demonstrate knowledge of state laws and local ordinances
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalency;
- Meet school bus driver certification requirements;
- Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing;
- Meet state physical examination requirements;
- Meet local or state standards for driving test;
- Meet local or state standards for driver record check;
- Ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting passengers
