Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is seeking candidates for an Elementary Teacher opening for the 2025-26 School Year.
220 Day (11-month) Contract effective late July 2025.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and possess or be eligible to acquire appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) to teach PK-6-Elementary as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
CCCA will consider special education applicants with elementary experience and willingness to work on adding elementary certification.
Salary based on the 2024-25 payscale.

SUMMARY:
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and possess or be eligible to acquire appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) to teach elementary school students (K-6) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board. Additional special education knowledge and experience with mental health issues is preferred. Position utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and sensory integration strategies, and creates a safe learning environment in an acute mental health setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
- Develops and implements lessons for individuals/groups as outlined by Virginia Department of Education;
- Conducts educational assessments
- Documents student attendance and academic progress
- Provides a stable, safe and stimulating atmosphere conducive to learning and hospital expectations;
- Establishes and maintains individual student records as required;
- Establishes high expectations for students by employing a variety of instructional strategies and technology;
- Documents educational data within the designated mental health system;
- Consults/communicates with parents and other relevant parties, such as hospital treatment teams, when appropriate;
- Performs other school duties and assignments as appointed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must possess: thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; the ability to be flexible depending on the needs of the students, the ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; understanding of the impact of mental health and trauma on learning; the ability to monitor progress and then alter instruction as needed; the ability to teach objectives necessary to meet VA Standards of Learning objectives; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and administration.
