Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Estimator will oversee the entire bid process, ensuring precise cost calculations and effective pricing strategies. This role requires expertise in HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal systems, along with a deep understanding of construction documents, project specifications, and value engineering opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage bid processes from initial analysis to proposal submission, including writing detailed proposal letters and completing bid forms and cost breakouts.
- Participate in bid review meetings to finalize project estimates and ensure all scope changes, addenda, and breakout requirements are incorporated.
- Work closely with internal teams to clarify project specifications, scope, and timelines while identifying cost-saving strategies.
- Conduct HVAC and plumbing system take-offs, ensuring accurate cost assessments for equipment, fixtures, labor, and materials.
- Lead take-off teams in project page-turn meetings to establish clear expectations and project scope.
- Review and validate all system specifications and cost estimates for accuracy.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, securing competitive pricing and ensuring complete bid packages.
- Coordinate with sales and estimating teams to align estimating strategies with company goals.
- Leverage industry knowledge to assess market conditions, customer needs, and competitor capabilities, refining bid strategies accordingly.
- Ensure estimating processes optimize productivity while minimizing risk.
Qualifications & Skills
- 3 years of experience in mechanical contracting, with a background in HVAC and plumbing estimating.
- Expertise in HVAC, piping, plumbing, and sheet metal systems, with a strong understanding of cost structures across various building types.
- Strong presentation and interview skills for construction project proposals.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, contractual documents, and project specifications.
- Ability to develop conceptual estimates for design-build projects based on mechanical narratives.
- In-depth knowledge of estimating strategies, construction contracts, and cost analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems and engineering principles.
- Experience using FastPIPE and Bluebeam.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
