Contract Delivery Driver (Rural Courier)

Job Description:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

· Sorting mail and packages into sequence of delivery daily. Approx 79 boxes on route. You will sort in Grant, NE.

· Loading vehicle in sequence of delivery.

· Delivering mail and packages along an established mail route in a timely manner.

· Dismounting vehicle when required for package delivery, Express Mail, and other accountable mail items. We deliver up to ½ mile from mailbox. If parcel doesn’t fit, we deliver to door or other agreed upon location.

· Collecting outgoing mail and packages daily.

· Other administrative duties as required.

· Safe driving practices during all times.

Qualifications

· No experience required. Will train.

· Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions! NONNEGOTIABLE.

· Must pass a Postal Inspection background and driving license check. No felonies, DUI’s, ETC.

• Must have a qualifying vehicle that meets the following postal regulations and driving requirements:
• One (1) dependable vehicle providing 120 cubic feet of usable load space for mail and parcels. Can be of any age as long as it is in good physical and mechanical condition.
• All-wheel-drive or 4-wheel-drive is preferred
• The applicant is responsible for all the vehicle maintenance, fuel, and insurance costs for their vehicle.

· Must be able to handle physical load. Lifting up to 70lbs.

· Must be reliable and responsible. You’ll be on your own.

Schedule:

• Monday - Saturday. 6 days a week with Government Holidays observed. If Government Holiday is on a regular day, we deliver the following. Daily hours will depend on mail volume and carrier efficiency. Typical duration 08:00a - 2:00p.

Pay

· 1099 Independent contractor. No benefits and you’ll pay your own taxes. Self employed.

Typical day

You'll arrive to the Grant, Ne Post Office and start sorting your daily mail. You'll sort letters, flats, packages, and anything else that needs to go out for delivery. You have a designated area to sort everything in order of delivery. (It'll take time some time to get efficient. The faster you can sort, the faster you can start delivery)
Once everything is sorted in order of delivery. You'll then load all items into your vehicle. This is physical. After your vehicle is loaded, you'll start delivery.
You'll follow the assigned line of travel delivering items along the way. Every parcel you deliver will be scanned prior to delivery. We deliver all parcels that don't fit into mailboxes up to 1/2 mile away from mailbox(1 mile round-trip). We deliver certified letters that require us to get out of the vehicle and knock on door for signatures.
This route is approx 120 daily miles on Monday through Saturday.
Once everything is delivered, you'll arrive back to the Grant, NE Post office and return your daily supplies along with any outgoing mail/parcels that were picked up along the route. Once all supplies are put away, you're done for the day. You will become more efficient with time. The faster you can delivery your daily mail, the faster you're done for the day.
