What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering Intern position at Stealth Robotics Startup?
We’re seeking a Mechatronics/Robotics Intern to take on an independent, full-stack technical project at our NYC-based robotics startup.
This role is designed as an intensive learning experience for a highly motivated engineer interested in the intersection of mechanical design, mechatronics, and robotics software. You’ll work directly with our founding team—alumni of Columbia, NYU, CMU, and GoogleX—on a focused subproject contributing to our core robotic system.
You’ll take ownership of a scoped engineering challenge, with guidance and mentorship, and see it through from early prototyping to testable results. Potential projects range from end-effector and fixture design to sensor integration and ROS2-based control systems.
What You’ll Do
· Design, prototype, and test a mechanical or electromechanical subsystem for a novel robotic application
· Integrate hardware with sensors, actuators, and software interfaces
· Develop ROS2 packages and nodes for perception, control, and hardware abstraction
· Produce documentation, CAD models, and demo videos to share results with the team
· Participate in regular technical reviews and receive mentorship on your area of focus
Who You Are
· Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or related field (or, a recent graduate in these fields).
· Hands-on experience with mechanical prototyping, 3D printing, and hardware assembly
· Comfortable with basic electronics, wiring, sensors, and embedded control
· Familiarity with ROS or ROS2, and programming in Python and/or C
· Passionate about building physical systems and eager to work across disciplines
· Independent, resourceful, and driven to learn in a fast-paced, high-trust environment
What We Offer
An immersive opportunity where your work matters—both technically and conceptually. You’ll join a tight-knit team building ambitious robotic systems from the ground up, and leave with meaningful project experience.
This is a part-time or full-time role depending on availability. Candidates must be based in NYC.
