The Opportunity :
Getting goods into the U.S. can be difficult for our customers, and we are looking for someone that isn't afraid of a challenge. As a Customs Specialist, you will be the bridge between our customer and U.S. government entities like U.S. Customs, FDA, and USDA. We are looking for someone that lives in the details! Most of your day will be spent reviewing documents, entering accurate data for Customs, and ensuring our entries are compliant to U.S. standards. Delays, issues, and problems arise every day in logistics, so the ability to keep cool and act proactively is paramount.
Responsibilities :
- Collaborating with clients and partners to receive all commercial documents in a timely manner, reviewing for completeness, and entering key data points into our transportation system
- Submitting timely customs entries at least 5 days prior to Port ETA to ensure our clients cargo is released in good order
- Working with internal Drayage and Operations departments to ensure any line holds are resolved, customs exams are facilitated, and any agency requirements are processed
- Work closely with the FDA, USDA, FWS, CBP, DHS, etc. to ensure complexities such as certain documentation requirements or regulations are fulfilled prior / during / after the customs entry
- Process Post Summary Corrections (PSC) to correct or modify an entry
- Support and lead client-onboarding calls and SOP implementation of our internal customs process and how Steam will execute the clearances on their behalf
- Support HTS code / database creation of part numbers, product codes, country of origin
- Support in auditing processes of entries and transactions to ensure accurate entry submissions
- Issuing Delivery Orders (D / O's) with all pertinent information to drayage partners that have pickup locations, Firms Codes, container information, etc. and tracking them all the way to ensure final delivery is in order
- Become well versed in freight payments (PierPass / PayCargo / Carrier Sites / etc.) to Terminals, Ocean Carriers, and Ports to ensure freight charges are fully paid and we are eliminating possible storage charges to keep goods moving
Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience-
Analyzing documentation, sorting and matching HTS codes, and capturing the correct currency valuations from Commercial Documents is key
Complex and difficult puzzles are something you thrive on uncovering and solving for your customers
Ability to engage our ocean carriers, airlines, terminals, and railyards professionally but with a sense of urgency obtain the documentation and information you need
