Full Time

Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000

Benefits:

• Vacation: 4 weeks for 0-5 years of service (prorated for first year), 5 weeks for 5-10 years’ service, and 6 weeks for 10 years

Position Summary

The Store Manager is a critical leadership position responsible for driving store profitability, operational excellence, and maintaining the unique culture of Steamboat Ace Hardware. Leading a team of 75 floor employees, the person hired to fill this role embodies our commitment to exceptional customer service, teamwork and community-oriented retail. The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring exceptional customer service, and leading a team of department managers and store associates. This role includes hiring, training, and evaluating staff to foster a culture of growth and excellence. The Store Manager will maintain inventory accuracy, implement merchandising strategies, enforce safety compliance and promote a customer-first philosophy. With a focus on operational efficiency and employee development, the Store Manager plays a crucial role in driving store performance and enhancing the overall shopping experience. Lastly, the Store Manager is an extension of the Swanson family’s employment philosophy that prizes generosity, compassion and collaboration amongst team members.

What you`ll need:

• Minimum Experience:
  • 5 years management experience in the hardware store/home center industry
  • Experience running a team with at least five direct reports and 25 total team members
• Preferred Experience:
  • 5-10 years' experience as manager or GM of a high-volume Ace Hardware store, or experience managing a multi store operation.
  • Management experience with at least 8 direct reports and 60 team members
  • Knowledge of Epicor, Mango and Margin Master

Key Responsibilities

Leadership:

• Serve as a visible and valued leader in a community-oriented hardware store in the Colorado Rockies where customer service is job #1
• Lead and develop a high-performing team of department managers and sales associates Steamboat Hardware
• Foster a positive and engaging workplace culture that reflects Steamboat Ace Hardware's traditions and values, with a special emphasis on superior customer service
• Recruit, hire, train, and ensure optimal staffing levels
• Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development
• Resolve conflicts and address staffing issues in accordance with company policies and values
• Effectively represent Steamboat Ace Hardware in our community and in the larger family of Ace Hardware stores
• Work in close collaboration with the two store owners to ensure that ongoing operations are aligned with company mission, vision and values

Sales & Operations:

• Direct the efforts of staff to meet customer needs, drive sales, manage inventory and maximize store profitability
• Enhance the store’s visual presentation through end cap management and by coordinating merchandising and re-merchandising efforts
• Develop and implement in-store marketing, promotions, and seasonal merchandising plans
• Manage operating expenses within budget parameters

Customer Service:

• Champion "Customer Service as the #1 Priority" and ensure that a culture of customer service excellence thrives
• Lead by example on the sales floor by directly participating in the customer service experience, utilizing this for teachable moments with staff, as well as gaining insights on how to focus store resources, inventory and procedures toward better helping the customer
• Address and resolve customer concerns quickly and effectively
• Strive for continual improvement of customer service metrics

Employee Development:

• Hire, train, and develop department managers and store associates, providing performance feedback and recognizing accomplishments
• Utilize one-on-one employee interactions for coaching and learning purposes
• Utilize daily huddles for coaching and team communication
• Ensure frequent employee recognition and appreciation

About Steamboat Ace Hardware:

Known for its fly fishing and excellent skiing, the Yampa Valley is also home to the coolest hardware store in Colorado – Steamboat Ace Hardware. While the origins of this family enterprise trace back three generations to 1946, it was in 1984 that Denny and Wayne Swanson opened a branch of their then Illinois based hardware business in the quiet ski town of Steamboat Springs. In the 40 years since then, Steamboat Ace Hardware has grown with the community, evolving into a world class hardware shopping experience with over 75 employees in a 25,000 square foot building. At its core, Steamboat Ace is a small-town business: customers catch up in the nuts-and-bolts aisle, dogs are always welcome, and every weekend community groups have barbeque fundraisers out front of the store. Grant and Marc Swanson, the current generation of owners, take great pride in what the hardware store means to the community and have given back to that community through the store’s philanthropic efforts and by nurturing a great work environment for their employees.
