Position Objective
To oversee, lead, and participate in the activities of the seasonal caretaker employees that maintain and improve County parks by informing visitors of park rules, by cleaning park facilities and by monitoring park trails and grounds. This position is also responsible for ensuring the parks are safe by reporting and responding to emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Functions in a lead capacity for designated seasonal caretaker staff, coordinating daily work assignments and any schedule changes with the Parks Maintenance Coordinator.
2. Inspects Park facilities, trails and amenities as assigned for maintenance priorities, damage, hazards, and vandalism. Schedules maintenance and repairs as needed.
3. Performs and oversees minor maintenance to park and trail facilities.
4. Opens and closes the park entrance gate.
5. Provides input to management on the performance of designated staff.
6. Assists management with maintaining a sufficient inventory of equipment, supplies, and materials.
7. Cleans building by washing ground floor windows, sanitizing washrooms, vacuuming, dusting blinds and furniture, and cleaning wall, floors, and storage areas.Minimum Qualifications
In order to be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- One year (season) of previous experience in park operations, landscaping, grounds maintenance, facility maintenance, construction, or similar field
Preferred Experience Beyond Minimum Qualifications:
- Previous lead or supervisory experience

1. Ability to plan, organize, assign, oversee and inspect the work of assigned staff.
2. Ability to perform routine building and grounds maintenance effectively and reliably.
3. Ability to communicate with assigned staff and the public to effectively inform park visitors of the rules.
4. Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize a variety of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
5. Ability to exercise good judgement when scheduling maintenance activities.
6. Ability to be self-motivated when performing responsibilities.
7. Ability to ensure compliance with safety policies and the proper reporting and/or correction of safety hazards.
8. Ability to develop respectful and cooperative working relationships.
9. Ability to handle escalated customer inquiries.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
The primary responsibilities for this position will be performed approximately 90% of the time outdoors and approximately 10% of the time indoors. Will have some exposure to health hazards and accidents. All employees are required to reside within the state of Minnesota.
Extent of Supervision or Guidance Provided
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Coordinator and the Park Director.

This position has a usual work schedule of 10-hour shifts on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sundays with every third weekend off starting in May and through Labor Day.
