Job Title: Inside Sales Representative

Position Overview:

We are a steel distributor in Northwest Indiana seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Inside Sales Representative to join our sales team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for generating and closing sales, building relationships with customers, managing existing accounts and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective communication and product knowledge. This role primarily involves handling sales inquiries, processing quotes and orders, and maintaining relationships with existing and potential clients.

This position requires a good eye for accuracy and detail, strong time-management skills, the ability to continuously learn and be coached, to listen and ask questions, to have a customer-centric mindset, and to work in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for an honest, optimistic, organized, responsible, determined, driven, self-starter who can take charge on their own as well as work collaboratively with members of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Generation:
  • Actively seek out new sales opportunities within existing accounts through outbound calls and emails
  • Follow up regularly on quotes to increase order conversion and address any questions or concerns
  • Conduct market research to identify new leads and business prospects
  • Actively call customers that haven’t ordered within a certain period of time
  • Collaborate with outside sales team to help meet sales goals and targets
  • Customer Relationship Management:
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with both new and existing customers
  • Understand customer challenges and needs in order to provide the appropriate solutions, products or services
  • Provide product and technical knowledge, pricing, and delivery information to clients
  • Sales Quotation & Order Management:
  • Prepare and deliver accurate quotes and proposals to customers ensuring all details (product specifications, delivery schedules, and pricing) are correct
  • Process customer orders making sure all relevant information is entered accurately into the system
  • Follow up with customers to confirm order details and ensure satisfaction with purchases
  • Collaborate with Other Departments:
  • Work closely with the outside sales, marketing, accounting, and purchasing to align strategies and ensure customer needs are met
  • Coordinate with logistics and production to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any issues that may arise
  • Communicate openly with departments to quickly address customer concerns and resolve any issues related to products or services
  • Sales Reporting, Market Research and Competitor Analysis:
  • Track sales activities, progress, and results to meet or exceed sales targets
  • Maintain accurate records in CRM of sales activities and interactions with clients
  • Assist in setting monthly and quarterly sales goals and strategies.
  • Research market trends and competitor activities to understand industry changes and client needs
  • Provide feedback to management on customer demands and new product opportunities in the market
  • Product Knowledge & Training:
  • Stay up to date with product offerings, pricing, industry trends, and competitor activity to provide accurate information to customers.
  • Provide technical information, product guidance, and support to clients regarding product options and services available
  • Attend regular training and meetings to improve product knowledge and sales techniques
  • Customer Support and Issue Resolution:
  • Provide post-sale support, including follow-up calls to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Act as a main point of contact for customer inquiries, complaints, and product concerns
  • Resolve any issues regarding quotes, orders, shipments, or product quality in a timely and professional manner
  • Handle returns, exchanges, or product issues and coordinate resolutions
  • Ensure a positive customer experience throughout the sales cycle

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales or a related field (preferred)
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in inside sales, customer service, or a similar role ideally in a technical or industrial setting, with knowledge of the steel industry
  • Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer service orientation and problem-solving skills
  • Goal-oriented with a proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets
  • Ability to read blue-prints and work with numbers

Work Environment:

  • This is hybrid, with occasional office days, remote work, and onsite customer visits as required
  • Infrequent evenings and travel for client meetings or industry events
  • Interaction with various internal teams such as outside sales, purchasing, production and accounting is common
  • High-energy environment where meeting deadlines and sales targets is a priority
