Job Title: Outside Sales Representative
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Outside Sales Representative to join our team in the steel industry. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the steel market, excellent relationship-building skills, and a proven ability to drive sales growth by identifying new business opportunities and managing existing customer accounts. In addition, this individual will be expected to follow a sales process and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospects. This role involves traveling within a designated territory to meet with clients and prospects, providing them with tailored solutions to their challenges, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
This position requires a good eye for detail, strong time-management skills, the ability to continuously learn and be willing to be coached, to listen and ask questions, and to follow a documentable sales process in all interactions with clients. We are looking for an honest, optimistic, responsible, determined, driven, self-starter who can take charge on their own as well as working collaboratively with members of the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a sales strategy to drive revenue growth within your assigned market focus
- Identify new business opportunities and prospective clients through networking and research
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current customers, acting as their primary point of contact
- Hold discovery meetings with key decision-makers, including procurement managers, engineers, maintenance managers, maintenance supervisors, and operations
- Provide customers with product guidance, pricing, and technical information to meet their needs
- Negotiate pricing and contract terms with customers, ensuring profitability while maintaining competitive positioning
- Collaborate with internal teams (inside sales, purchasing, warehouse) to ensure the timely and accurate fulfillment of orders
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to stay ahead of industry changes and adjust sales strategies accordingly
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales activities, and pipeline opportunities in CRM system
- Network through industry associations and attend trade shows, conferences, and industry events to promote the company’s offerings

Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Outside Sales Representative or similar role, preferably in the steel industry
- Strong knowledge of steel products, pricing, and market trends
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Ability to build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships
- Self-motivated and target-driven with the ability to work independently and a track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals
- Proficient in using CRM software and Microsoft 365/MS Office Suite
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory
- Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused mindset. Quickly addressing and resolving issues with clients
- Understanding sales techniques, strategies and following a sales process
- Time management-efficiently managing time to meet sales targets and deadlines
- Adaptability-being flexible and able to adjust strategies based on market trends and client needs and issues
- The ability to onboard new clients not by price, but by communicating the service and value we offer
- Strictly qualifying prospects and being a gatekeeper focusing on ideal clients
- The ability to consistently achieve activity goals and effectiveness
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or related field is preferred
- 1 years of experience in outside sales, ideally in a technical or industrial setting, with knowledge of the steel industry
Work Environment:
- This position requires frequent travel within the assigned territory
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to attend trade shows, client meetings, or industry events
- A company car and travel reimbursement will be provided
- Majority of work is remote with occasional office meetings
