SFI is seeking an experienced individual for our quality inspection department. The Quality Control Technician will ensure the compliance of products shipped to customers and materials used in the production process at Steel Forgings, Inc. located in the Shreveport/Bossier City, LA. area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret customer drawings, and compare to finished products
- Using a saw, lathe, and/or milling machine, cut and prepare test pieces for laboratory testing (tensile, charpy, chemistry, etc.)
- Conduct final inspection of all finished pieces that ship from the plant. This includes dimensional and cosmetic checks to verify pieces meet or exceed customer specifications
- Perform laboratory tests (tensile, charpy, chemistry, hardness) on test pieces
- Track test pieces through the facility to ensure tests are completed on time
- Ensure accurate reporting of test results and maintain records
- Responsible to react to production needs when important quality-related decisions are needed
- Use Shoptech reporting system to process orders through inspection
- Ability to use UT meter to measure wall thickness of fittings as required
- Perform quarterly measuring device calibrations/verifications
- Interact with various departments on quality calls
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Work experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment preferred; quality control experience an advantage
- Can work safely in a physically demanding industrial environment
- Basic computer skills, with working knowledge of MS Office and Google Sheets
- Self-motivated team player
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Regular, predicable, full attendance is a must
- Great communicator with both peers and management level employees
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment
- Working in temperature zones that may include hot environments for extended periods and may include work in environments where dust is present
