POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Apprentice Maintenance Technician Department: Maintenance
Status: Full-Time / Non-Exempt Reporting Manager: Maintenance Foreman

Steel LLC is seeking a highly motivated, self-starting individual to fulfill a current position within its maintenance department. This is an hourly position that reports to the Maintenance
Manager. The purpose of this position is to provide timely and accurate maintenance support to
Steel, LLC Scottdale Operations.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening and looking for problems.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments
- Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Physical Requirements:
- This position will require standing, bending, stooping and walking the majority of the day within the Shop.
- This position is required to stand and walk up to 2/3 of the time.
- Frequent work at heights of 30’ and higher.
- This position does require the individual to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work cross functional shifts.
Required Skills:
- Excellent troubleshooting and installation skills.
- Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic conveyor/transfer system.
- Use job related terminology, symbols, and abbreviations properly.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Possess basic math and computer skills.
- Ability to speak and write in English.
- Basic knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, plumbing and electrical up to 480V.
- Skilled in repairing mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Bears professionalism to work in a team environment.
- Proper use of all hand and power tools
- Observe products quality to determine problems.
- Understanding of electrical and pneumatic switches.
- Understanding of PLC/CPU and Servo motors/Drives.
- Ability to identify all bearings and their placement.
- Ability to perform machine rebuild with little to no supervision.
- Install/align closed gear drives.
- Maintain safety guards.
- Fabricate hydraulic lines.
- Neat and clean workstation
- Perform proper Lock Out-Tag Out procedures.
Education Requirement:
- A post high school diploma
- At least five (5) years previous experience in a production plant or eight (8) years of maintenance work in a manufacturing environment.
