Summary

Supply Chain Manager leads and participates on a team that contributes to the Steel Tech culture by creating a strategy for the flow of goods, resources, and information required by the supply chain. Negotiates best timeline, price, and volume of materials to meet company standards, protect company from fluctuation in the market, and support forecast, sold jobs, and orders.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develops effective Supply Chain strategy to maximize customer satisfaction and best value solution. 
  • Communicates and negotiates with suppliers and vendors to procure the best value solution of price, availability, and quality attributes.
  • Leads the supply chain team in executing best practices and measures performance through agreed upon KPI's (Key performance Indicators).
  • Plans, Manages, and coordinates all activities related to the sourcing and procurement of necessary materials and supplies needed to meet the changing levels of product demand.               
  • Works with plants, warehouse, and logistics departments to determine and set up intercompany transfers.   
  • Manages inventory levels and costs of consumables and materials to maximize inventory turns by developing and implementing inventory control systems and practices.
  • Works with transportation companies to set most cost-effective solution. 
  • Assists, implements, creates, and supports proper utilization of ERP system
  • Member of the operations staff, responsible for routinely report department KPI's along with appropriate analysis and countermeasures where necessary.
  • Gathering Information - Observing, receiving, and qualifying and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Continuous Improvement - Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Tech Competency - Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates - Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Developing and Building Teams - Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent Leadership and coaching principles that embody Steel Tech core values and behaviors.  Manufacturing and Industry Knowledge, Inventory Management, and effective purchasing practices 
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of metal building raw materials, production processes, BOM, machine capabilities, internally and externally, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • ERP knowledge
  • Standard Manufacturing definitions and language
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modelling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Negotiation principles and concepts
  • ProNest and nesting software
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
  • Understanding of metal building material market trends
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
  • Effective leadership that motivates and engages team members, manages priorities, and projects that practice efficiency with all resources: people, time schedules, and project plans to include shop files and drawings that provide for excellent customer service.
  • ERP implementation and data input capabilities
  • Communicate, schedule, and manage effectively by using Microsoft office programs
  • Effectively manages multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain focus, and adapt to a variety of challenges

  • Develop, maintain, and improve systems that maximize clarity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Vendor Relations, proper and effective negotiation.
  • Create supply plans that ensure availability of materials or products.
  • Monitor forecasts and quotas to identify changes or to determine their effect on supply chain activities.
  • Define performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, such as product cost or quality.
  • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, or optimize customer service for internal and external customers.
  • Develop procedures for coordination of supply chain management with other functional areas, such as sales, marketing, finance, production, or quality assurance.

Physical/Environment Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting, use of computer and office machinery and systems.
  • 25-50% of time may be spent at the plants for inventory and purchasing needs
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
