What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager position at Steelcase?

We're hiring a Associate to Senior Project Manager to lead, execute and monitor complex product development projects!

What You Will Be Doing:
Leads the planning, execution, and monitoring of large and complex product development projects, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Develop and manage project schedules including activities, milestones, and deliverables. Leads cross-functional meetings to coordinate activities between team members, including Marketing, Design, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations. Leads the team in identification of project risks and develops mitigation plans to minimize potential impact. Manages the engagement of a broad support team including product & order fulfillment database groups, legal, codes, sustainability, packaging, logistics, and launch. Collaborate with team members to ensure that product development activities are aligned and executed effectively. Establish effective communication channels with all stakeholders, providing regular project status updates along with project phase reviews. Ensure that all project documentation and project reporting is completed according to defined standard work. Project assignments will typically have significant impact on the product category, with a high degree of scope, complexity, and risk.

As a member of the Product Development Project Management team, you will closely with Marketing, Finance, Operations and Product Engineering

Who You Are:
Preferred Skills and Competencies
  • Project Management skills: A strong understanding of project management principles including scope, planning, resource, budget, communication, risk, stakeholder, and monitoring / control. Confident with project management software tools, including Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, SAP, and Tableau.
  • Product Development knowledge: A thorough understanding of the product development process including functional roles & responsibilities, and the phases of exploration, concept, development, and implementation.
  • Leadership skills: The ability to lead a team thru the product development process via uniting on a purpose, goal setting, delegation, issue resolution, and inspiring team members to achieve project objectives.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and oral communication abilities including the ability to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and senior management.
  • Interpersonal skills: Including having sound judgement, decision making ability, able to influence others, customer orientation, positive temperament, initiative taker, integrator, respected, and high integrity.
  • Planning & organizational skills: Strong ability to create and execute a plan; and proven organizational abilities.
  • Business focus: Ability to optimize business results by leveraging analytical skills, problem solving ability, and consensus building within teams and stakeholders.
  • Financial acumen: Able to understand and interpret financial data within the project environment.
  • Innovation mindset: Demonstrates a creative and innovative mindset, with a passion for exploring new ideas and developing products that meet customer needs and preferences.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to product development.
  • At least 3 years of professional work experience in a functional area related to product development.
  • At least 2 years of formal functional leadership or project team leadership experience
