What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Building Inspector position at STEELE COUNTY?
Part-Time, Non-Exempt
We are looking for someone who can work 2-3 days per week for 7-8 hours per day.
Under the direction of the Building Official, the Building Inspector is responsible for administering and assuring compliance with international residential building (IBC) codes and for performing plan reviews, maintaining and updating file records and notes on buildings as they are constructed. Duties include, but not limited to:
· Conducts plan reviews prior to construction, ensuring proper materials, size, spans, loading, and bearings are calculated properly for the structural integrity of the building. Ensures that HVAC and MN energy code requirements are met. Reviews and monitors proper slope and grade from structure.
· Interprets IBC codes for community members, builders, and contractors to ensure compliance and understanding of codes to minimize error and eventual costs. Conducts disaster/damage inspections for occupancy safety.
· Conducts field inspections to assure that structural, set back and waste water requirements are met, conferring with additional resources and advising contractors and homeowners of corrections in the event of a non-compliance. Records inspection results, documenting non-conformances and related resolutions.
· Maintains recording records and filings within the department. Addresses outdated permits, issues certificates of occupancy and reviews certification of contractor, engineer and architectural licenses.
· Performs general customer services and public relation activities by responding to inquiries and questions from the public and community. Handles phone calls and emails in a timely manner.
