This is a West Milwaukee, WI based internship opportunity
Summary
Under direction of the Engineering Manager, the Structural Engineer Intern is accountable for learning how to develop and execute projects of standard design structures, and how to cost-effectively customize standard designs to meet order-specific customer requirements following industry’s safety and quality standards. This is an entry-level position in which engineer students learn steel platform design, become familiar with development / production design tools and processes, and learn the basic operation of Steele Solutions manufacturing business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Independently completes project activity as delegated by the project leader. Projects can be either product process improvement or production design process improvement. Contributes ideas for further improvements
Responsible for completing assigned work on each project with respect for completeness, accuracy and adherence to design standards.
Initial Project Sketch / Drawing
Approval Drawings Submittals to Customer
Generating and Basic Editing of 3D Models
Revisions and Project Change Documents
Final Detail Drawing
Calculation Packets- Creation for Submittals
Support Engineers in completion of project timelines and documentation
Assists Engineers with various aspects of their jobs, including but not limited to calculations and concepts
Assists Office Administrators with server file structure needs, green book printing, and scanning of documents
Works independently to solve problems, but use good judgment in seeking guidance where appropriate
Interfaces with other departments regularly in completing routine work (Drafting, Engineering and Project Management)
Typical work requires an understanding of engineering processes, familiarity with engineering information, and familiarity with data sources
Qualifications : Education and / or Experience
High School diploma required
Currently pursuing a degree in Architectural / Civil / Structural Engineering
A minimum Junior standing required
At least 1-2 years of training or work experience in the use of computer aided design tools (AutoCAD 2016 or higher, and 3D modeling software) is required
Fluent in product and process knowledge as well as in production structural / mechanical design principles
General Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office required. Excellent Excel skills are a plus

Time management skills : Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple tasks
Able to work well within a team, as well as work independently on projects
