Job Summary:
The Dirt Superintendent for SWX is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of earthwork and grading projects at a higher management level. This role involves strategic planning, supervising foremen and their crews, and coordinating the activities of the equipment and materials to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The Dirt Superintendent must effectively communicate with upper management, clients, and inspectors, and ensure compliance with all safety protocols and project specifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee the work of foremen and their teams across multiple job sites.
- Provide high-level operational planning and resource allocation including machinery and staffing.
- Interpret and oversee the execution of grading plans and elevations across projects.
- Ensure all earthwork and grading operations comply with project specifications and local jurisdiction requirements.
- Implement and monitor construction technologies such as GPS, lasers, and levels to maintain accurate grade tolerances across sites.
- Enforce strict adherence to company and OSHA safety protocols, especially concerning excavations and trenches.
- Serve as the primary communication link between project managers, clients, and inspectors.
- Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of heavy machinery.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, adjust workloads and assignments based on project needs.
- Conduct daily and weekly meetings to review project status and plan forward movement.
- Handle high-level problem resolution on-site, ensuring continuous progress.
Education & Skill Requirements:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in grading/dirt supervision, with at least 3 years in a superintendent role.
- Proven track record managing large crews and multiple projects.
- Extensive knowledge and ability to operate heavy machinery such as Dozers, Excavators, and Compactors.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
