LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Position Title: Laboratory Technician Classification Status: Full Time

The role of Lab Technician is extremely important and requires a multi-faceted skill set. The Lab Technician is responsible for sample accessioning, and sample preparation of cannabis for testing, including Potency Analysis, Residual Solvent Analysis, Heavy Metal Analysis, and Microbiology Analysis. Lab Technicians must possess the ability to work across a variety of tasks. The Lab Technician will answer to the Laboratory Director. The Lab Technician will be responsible to weigh out samples, perform chemical extraction, dilution of volatile solvents for High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Gas Chromatography (GC) analysis. The Lab Technician will be expected to work across a variety of tasks with attention to detail, organization, and professionalism.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sample preparation of cannabis for testing, including Potency Analysis, Residual Solvent Analysis, Heavy Metal Analysis, and Microbiology Analysis.
- Learn and execute established Steep Hill and state regulatory SOPs.
- Weigh out samples, perform chemical extraction, dilution of volatile solvents for High Performance Liquid Chromatography (GC) analysis.
- Process of high sample throughput.
- Load LCMS and GCMS instruments.
- Operate automated microbiological testing equipment.
- Clean and maintain lab and equipment, including but not limited to; incubators, laminar flow hood, fume hood, homogenizer, sonicators, microbiology medium prep, and autoclave.
- Dispose of analyzed samples and follow proper chemical waste procedures.
- Perform appropriate lab practices.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment at all times (PPE).
- Organize supplies
- Provide support and integrate seamlessly with other key departments within Steep Hill Oklahoma.
- Perform other laboratory and clerical duties such as data entry, filing, or supply inventory and assumption of other responsibilities on an as-needed basis, or as delegated.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum high school diploma. Associates degree in Science or 2 years of college course work or completed Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.
- Previous experience with Lab Information Management systems preferred.
- 1-2 years of prior experience in an academic or commercial lab is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment and/or in the cannabis industry is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build a strong team.
- Creative, analytical problem-solver who can cooperatively work effectively with colleagues and understands and follows verbal and written instructions; works independently in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
- The ability to adapt to rapid changes and utilize newly emergent technological solutions; e.g. Zendesk, Xero, Slack, and Power BI, as well as company-built ERP.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel) and GSuite (primarily Google Sheets & Google Docs).
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written command) with excellent computer, typing and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting, ability and willingness to multi-task, and the ability to prioritize and manage assignments.
- Positive attitude and willingness to work in a collaborative environment.
- Personal integrity, disciplined work ethic, organization skills, and motivation to work with a sense of urgency.
- Hours/Schedule: 1st or 2nd shift, extra hours may be required, potential for flexible works.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and after-hours for business meetings, trade shows, events and presentation.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
