The Associate Data Modeler must be a fast learner with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and able to work under supervision from senior team members as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Associate Data Modeler must be able to work well with a diverse group of team members to deliver software solutions on time, on budget and within specifications.
The Associate Data Modeler will report to the Service Delivery Manager responsible for the application area.
- Principal responsibilities include the planning, requirements, design, coding, testing, debugging, system integration, and documenting of components of complex, multi-tier government systems.
- Responsible for evaluating user requests for new programs, modifications to existing programs, and system integration of off the shelf Products.
- Programs can be defined as Data models, reports, or data integration applications.
- Performs research and gathers relevant data to determine feasibility, appropriateness, and cost and time required. Prepares detailed estimates to obtain approval to proceed.
- Analyzes, designs and implements accurate, secure, efficient, logical and physical data bases and coordinates database development applying knowledge of database design standards and database management system.
- Identifies and resolves production and/or applications development problems related to the use of the database and/or reporting design.
- Creates description to enable programmer analysts to understand how programs should access data. Writes description of how user accesses data, referred to as logical database.
- Writes physical database description, such as location, space requirements, and access method, to protect company data resources against unauthorized access and accidental destruction, according to computer industry standards and knowledge of database management system.
- Creates system and user documentation. Associate Data Modeler should be capable of working on several projects simultaneously.

- Strong IBM DataStage, IBM Cloud pack, IBM Infosphere, Snowflake
- Technical experience should include design and development for data integrations and acquisitions, and implementation of reporting solutions.
- Must be able to design, develop and manipulate databases, data warehouses and multidimensional databases. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience of data management concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in data technologies, data modeling, data integration and reporting.
- Strong skills in design, development and testing using Sybase Power Designer, Crystal Reports and IBM DataStage and other equivalent tools in the industry.
- Intermediate skills in using data modeling tools for client server and mainframe repositories.
- Possess experience in reporting applications with knowledge of Crystal Reports or Cognos a plus.
- Strong understanding of data integration security concepts and trends for developing secure data integration applications.
- Demonstrated self-starter and self-directed worker; good judgment in when and how to engage other parties, especially management.
- Knowledgeable of and experienced in Quality Management principles and practices, including a genuine belief in the effectiveness of applying them in day-to-day activities.
Required
- Design, code, test, debug and document complex data integration solutions. Writes well-documented code to assure proper code maintenance in the future. Participate in code reviews and walkthroughs. Mentoring others in data integration.
- Responsible for large and complex data models, creating complex data matrices, and mentoring others in reporting and data modeling.
- Manages data analyst project tasks including providing estimates; customer management for data modeling, data integration, and reporting; promote data modeling and data sharing across the state.
- Perform business/quantitative analyses and re-engineer poor workflows. Evaluates and recommends a custom build solution versus use of a commercial off-the-shelf product.
- Research new approaches and evaluate new software tools and techniques.
- Monitor mission critical systems and provide post-implementation and production support as an on-call programmer.
- Technology & I/T disciplines training, technical research, participate in team & other meetings.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in an I/T discipline strongly preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Basic training in project management principles and practices.
- Trained or experienced in Data management.
- Possesses professional certifications, or experience, commensurate with Beginner level technical capabilities.
